AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH (ATS) PANEL
This is a triple input Automatic Transfer Switch panel used to control two generator sets and one PHCN source. It is designed around two microprocessor based AMF (Automatic Mains Fail) modules. The ATS is capable of switching load between the two generators at a set timed interval in absence of mains supply. When a fault occurs on a running generator, the ATS will start the idle generator. It also has the option of master / slave arrangement for the generators.
ATS FUNCTIONS
The controller for the diesel generator set performs the voltage, power and frequency parameters (programmable by the operator) of the mains and diesel alternator sets.
Oil pressure parameters (programmable by the operator) of the diesel generator sets.
High Temperature parameters(programmable by the operator) of the diesel generator set.
Starting and Stopping of the generator sets as well as switching between the generator sets are designed to balance the runtime evenly. If a fault occurs on the running generator, the idle one is started even if the time to switch is not due. A summary alarm is then generated and send to the telemetry system for the dispatch of field team to rectify the fault.
The automatic control makes provision for programmable crank, rest, number of start attempt of the generator sets. In case of a failure to start, the indication of the fault is activated on the controller and voltage free contact is also provided for the fail to start fault condition.
All power input sources of PHCN, Generator 1 and Generator 2 are connected by mechanical and electrical interlocks of the contactors.
The load consumed in KW and power factor are measured at all times. In case of excess power consumption, (which is programmable by the operator) the panel disconnects the load and shut down the generator set.
Voltage free alarm contacts and terminals showing sections for the generator sets and other alarms are provided.
A bypass switch to bypass the mains around the ATS is provided and it is designed such that there cannot be accidental short circuit. It also has Normal, Bypass and OFF positions.
A five pin industrial male connector of IP 67 protection rating is mounted on the side of the control cabinet to enable a mobile generator to be connected to the system in an emergency, through a manual change over.
